Have you ever considered your role in caring for creation?

For some of us, we encounter earth care as an activist movement to fight for climate action, wildlife preservation and friends of the earth campaigns, but each one of us has a very important role to play in our own homes, in our own communities. It is our loving response to the one who created all things.

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. Psalm 24:1-3

The earth, and everything in it was created by a loving God who carefully considered every colour and function like a master craftsman considering every brushstroke on their masterpiece. Yet in God’s creation, we see even more of God’s loving character through the way we are inspired by a sunset, or the heartbeat of a newborn baby.

When we consider the care God has put into creation, we also consider the care he has entrusted to us as stewards of his creation.

‘To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. Yet the Lord set his affection on your ancestors and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations – as it is today. Deuteronomy 10:14-15

As you see the beauty of creation around you, remember our loving God who created it, revel in it, care for it, preserve it and let it flourish for the generations to come.

Young sad mad sitting in regret

Can we get personal for a moment? How’s your relationship going?

Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus says: ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’

We all know that love is the key to all good relationships, but what if you’re just not feeling it? When our world is rocked by crisis, depression, sickness or hardship, it’s hard to be strong for our loved ones. This month, we hear stories of men’s mental health, broken relationships, and the challenge of not being able to provide for your family.

When all hope is lost, and we can’t summon the strength to be strong for our family, what do we do? There are many stories of people who’ve hit rock bottom and turned to addictive habits, been overwhelmed by depression or anxiety, or become physically ill from stress and worry.

But we have the greatest healer of all time on our side. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28 ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’ What a great comfort it is to know we can trust in his strength, when we have none. We can come to him with our greatest burdens and we will be lifted up. We can trust in a hope and a future because he loves us without exception.
